Philips agreed to settle without admitting or denying the SEC’s findings. Photo: Eva Plevier/REUTERSRoyal Philips , a Dutch medical supply company, has agreed to pay $62 million to resolve claims by regulators that it violated a U.S. antibribery law by improperly manipulating Chinese procurement processes and influencing public officials at Chinese state-run hospitals. The Amsterdam-based company’s conduct in China violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said Thursday. The regulator said Philips had agreed to settle its claims without admitting to or denying the findings from its investigation.
The Steve Jobs Theater on the grounds of Apple Park corporate headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. Photo: Andrej Sokolow/dpa/ReutersWASHINGTON—A former Apple engineer has been charged with trying to steal the company’s self-driving-car technology, U.S. authorities said Tuesday, one of a series of actions aimed at dismantling what they say are illicit networks providing Russia and China with access to trade secrets and restricted items such as aircraft parts and battlefield equipment. Weibao Wang, 35 years old, a software engineer at Apple from 2016 to 2018, was charged with six counts of theft or attempted theft of the company’s “entire autonomy source code,” tracking systems, architecture designs and descriptions of hardware behind the technology, the Justice Department said in an indictment.
Like other aspiring actors, Devin Badoo makes ends meet working on TV commercials, including as dads hawking Loctite glue and Hot Wheels toys. Office theatricsWhat Hollywood producers might not know is that Mr. Badoo is already the star of a hit show—just not one they would ever see. The 35-year-old plays Nelson, one of the most popular characters of “Trust Code,” a series of Microsoft compliance training videos that has made him a celebrity among the company’s 221,000 employees in 190 countries.
In theory, virtually any rule-making by a regulatory agency could be subject to arguments around Chevron if the Supreme Court weakens the doctrine. Photo: ELIZABETH FRANTZ/REUTERSA Supreme Court review of a decades-old regulatory precedent is threatening to complicate the Biden administration’s push to enact tough new rules on climate, gun ownership and financial markets. The high court last week said it would reconsider Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council, a 1984 Supreme Court opinion that gives regulators legal cover to interpret ambiguous—and sometimes outdated—statutes.

Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg was blacklisted by the U.S. in 2018. Photo: Sergei Bobylev/Zuma PressA New York lawyer has pleaded guilty to criminal charges stemming from payments he made for Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg , the latest in a crackdown on the white-collar professionals who federal prosecutors say are key enablers of the Kremlin’s sanctions-evasion efforts. The lawyer, Robert Wise , helped Mr. Vekselberg make about $3.8 million in payments to maintain six properties in New York and Florida owned by the Russian billionaire, prosecutors say.
